Economy, Management, and Design of performances in the 17th and 18th centuries Convegni

Dal 27 al 30 giugno 2024 si terrà a Lisbona un convegno dal titolo Economy, Management, and Design of performances in the 17th and 18th centuries. L'evento è organizzato dal centro Divino Sospiro - Centro de Estudos Musicais Setecentistas de Portugal (CEMSP) e dai componenti del progetto PRIN 2022 The Performing Arts and Digital Humanities: A mapping of the dissemination of the Italian model of spectacle in Eighteenth Century Europe. The migration of professionals, the circulation of production practices and theatrical ideas at the roots of European identity. Il comitato scientifico è composto da Maria Chiara Barbieri, José Camões, Roberta Carpani, Francesco CotticelliPaulo Ferreira de Castro, Renzo Guardenti, Paologiovanni Maione, Giuseppina Raggi, Gianluca Stefani, Lorena Vallieri, Piermario Vescovo, Iskrena Yordanova.

The Divino Sospiro-CEMSP and units of the Italian National Research Project 2022 (PRIN) organize an International Conference focused on the theme Economy, Management, and Design of performances in the 17th and 18th centuries. The aim is to investigate the productive and administrative models of theatrical and musical events, as well as their circulation across Europe by considering both the activities of public venues in the principal European cities in the early modern era and the dense network of private events promoted by the aristocracy. In detail, our focus is on:

- The history of institutions and theatrical venues;
- Archival texts and documents related to the management of performing events of every typology and genre;
- Legal measures and organizational mechanisms related to private and/or public contexts;
- Biographies of impresarios, managers, actors, singers, and artists involved in production and management;
- Hiring of artists;
- Strategies of touring companies;
- Fairs, festivals (civic and religious);
- Satellite activities depending on theatre business.

The official languages of the conference are Portuguese, Italian, English and Spanish. Abstracts in Word format (.doc), should not exceed 300 words. Please enclose in the same file brief curriculum vitae of 150 words max., providing your name and surname, postal address, e-mail and telephone number, as well as your institutional affiliation. The deadline for sending abstracts is February 10th, 2024.

This year the conference belongs to the events promoted by the PRIN 2022 The Performing Arts and Digital Humanities: A mapping of the dissemination of the
Italian model of spectacle in Eighteenth Century Europe. The migration of professionals, the circulation of production practices and theatrical ideas at the roots of European identity. Select papers will be included in a publication edited by the principal researchers involved in the project.
